How do I find out if Xfinity is down in my area? ›

Additionally, you can text OUT to 266278 (COMCST) to check for outages in your area. Data and messaging rates may apply. You can also choose the option to Text me with updates to receive a text message update as soon as your Xfinity services are restored.

Check the power and connections for your devices

Check that all the cable connections are secure. If your TV is hooked up to a TV Box, VCR, or DVD player, check that the TV is on the right channel or input. If Xfinity TV isn't working on all your TVs, the problem is probably outside of your home.

You can troubleshoot connectivity issues using the Xfinity app. Select WiFi and click the Troubleshoot option. If our system detects a problem we can't fix online and a visit is required, you have the option to schedule a technician visit.

You live outside of our service area. Your address is more than 300 feet from our physical network. We haven't extended our service line to your address. Your property owner, homeowners association or condominium association has an agreement with another service provider or won't give us access to provide our services.

Confirm the outage

Before assuming it's a wider area issue, confirm that others are experiencing the same problem. You can do this using Down Detector, checking your internet service provider's website or social media, or simply by asking around.

Unplug the power from your modem or gateway, wait one minute, and then plug it back in. You can also do so remotely if your modem is responsive by performing a restart. Check for local outages using the Xfinity Status Center Outage Map.

Xfinity outages can be caused by bad weather, power outages, cut fiber lines in the wider network, and much more. Multiple short but frequent outages, however, are likely caused by one of two things: Network upgrades in your neighborhood or faulty equipment or wiring at your home.

Make sure your device is connecting to the correct network. Sometimes a new device tries to join a Xfinity WiFi hotspot (xfinitywifi or Xfinity). Connect to your in-home WiFi network instead. To find your WiFi name and password, see How to view and change your WiFi network name and password.

If your Xfinity router has an orange blinking light, it's usually having a problem connecting to the internet.

It can happen due to the ISP being down, a loose cable connection, or a software/hardware glitch on your xFi gateway. Restarting your networking devices is the easiest way to fix the Xfinity internet that keeps disconnecting.

Restart Gateway. The most common method to fix the “no Internet access” issue is to restart the gateway. Just power off/unplug your gateway, wait for several minutes or so, and power on/re-plug the gateway again to see whether you can connect to your Internet or not.

The distance between your personal devices and your gateway, modem, or router. Older devices which could be consuming bandwidth and slowing down your network. Interference from neighboring WiFi networks, especially during peak hours.

Troubleshooting steps

Make sure all power cables are plugged into working power outlets for the TV and for your X1 TV Box. Hand-tighten all cable connections to make sure they're not loose. If using an HDMI cable to connect the X1 TV Box to the TV, confirm that it's plugged into the proper locations.

Select WiFi from the bottom of the app. Select Troubleshoot. Tap Test your whole home network. From here, the app tests both the speed to your gateway and to the devices you're using to access Xfinity Internet.

Use the arrow buttons on the remote to highlight Low Signal Indicator. Press OK (or press the raised button on the center of the directional pad if your X1 remote does not have an OK button) to toggle the feature on. The indicator will then appear at the top right of your screen, next to the time and temperature.
