Adding flavor swirls amounts to an extra 150-160 calories a pump, according to Dunkin'.
"Frozen coffees go through our Oasis which is hooked up to a liquid sugar bag. That accounts for most of the sugar/calories (in order to help melt the ice/blend it together)," another employee wrote.
They went on to say that the "coffee" that customers know and love in the frozen drinks is actually a pumpable syrup.
While the exact number of calories in the coffee syrup is unknown, the employee gave customers a tip on how to reduce sugar in their coffee.
"If you want flavor in your coffee (iced, hot, or frozen) without so many calories, I'd recommend flavor shots. Shots have about 10 calories per pump I believe," the employee said.
Dunkin' workers took to Reddit to share the menu items that they would avoid ordering at the chain. "Large frozen coffees with flavor added," one user wrote. "Easily over 1,000 calories of pure sugar." A large Frozen Butter Pecan Swirl Coffee with Whole Milk contains 930 calories with 185 grams of sugar.
