Critics Consensus
Have no fear! Mrs Claus spreads holiday cheer in The Year Without Santa, a holiday classic full of unforgettable songs and characters that stays true to the Christmas spirit.
Chris Nashawaty Entertainment Weekly It's up to a pair of elves (Jingle Bells and Jangle Bells) to save the day. But first they have to get past Heat Miser and Snow Miser - the best Christmas baddies since the Grinch. Nov 29, 2018 Full Review Andrew Ryan Globe and Mail Truly terrible. Nov 28, 2018 Full Review Charles Bramesco New York Times The breakout stars were Heat Miser and Snow Miser, bitter rivals and brothers with control over the elements. Their jaunty tune ranks among the catchiest original songs that a Rankin-Bass production ever yielded. Nov 26, 2018 Full Review Rachel Wagner rachelsreviews.net It's certainly one of my favorite of the Rankin/Bass specials. Rated: 9/10 Apr 17, 2019 Full Review Refinery29 Editors Refinery29 What's more fun than stop-motion animated holiday movies? Absolutely nothing... It also features a badass Mrs. Claus basically trying to save Christmas. Nov 28, 2018 Full Review Molly Freeman Hollywood.com The best one of all - and surely we can all agree on this one - is The Year Without A Santa Claus. On top of being an animated Christmas special, it's also a musical with songs like I Could Be Santa Claus and Blue Christmas. Nov 26, 2018 Full Review Read all reviews

Heat/Snow Miser Brothers? 💎 Rated 5/5 Stars •Rated 5 out of 5 stars12/12/23 Full Review Joel H I didn't really watch The Year Without a Santa Claus when I was growing up, so I'm not looking at it through the nostalgia glasses that I wear for other Rankin/Bass Productions. In fact, the only thing I really knew about this animated TV special before seeing it was the Snow Miser song, and that's because of its brief appearance in Batman & Robin (1997). Nevertheless, I can see why kids would enjoy it. It's a simple story with amusing animation and a few good songs. I don't think this will become regular Christmas viewing in my family, but I'm glad I finally watched The Year Without a Santa Claus. Also love the tiny baby reindeer Rated 4/5 Stars •Rated 4 out of 5 stars02/23/23 Full Review jacob b It might not be, in my eyes at least, one of the best Rankin-Bass specials, the voice acting, songs, scene-stealing Miser Brothers and charmingly sincere storytelling make The Year Without A Santa Claus another heartwarming Christmas television classic. 1. It's a Wonderful Life. An angel is sent from Heaven to help a desperately frustrated businessman by showing him what life would have been like if he had never existed.
Well, in this same tradition, two somewhat obscure characters from the Rankin-Bass special, THE YEAR WITHOUT A SANTA CLAUS (1974) debuted--the Heat Miser and Snow Miser. They were great characters for kids and when I recently saw this old TV special again, I still enjoyed their antics.
The story is based on Phyllis McGinley's 1956 book of the same name. It is narrated by Shirley Booth (her final acting credit before her retirement from acting) and starring the voices of Mickey Rooney, Dick Shawn, and George S. Irving. It was originally broadcast on December 10, 1974, on ABC.
According to a survey conducted in December 2022, "Home Alone" ranked as the most viewed Christmas film in the United States, with 87 percent of respondents saying they had seen it. Chris Columbus' 1990 comedy classic was followed by 2000´s "How The Grinch Stole Christmas".
Claus's first name comes from a historically accurate set of stories written by James Rees in 1849. This book of stories is called “Mysteries of City Life.” In it, Mr. Rees asserts that Mrs. Claus's first name is in fact Gertrude.
A Miser Brothers' Christmas is a 2008 Christmas stop motion spin-off special, based on the characters from the 1974 Rankin-Bass special The Year Without a Santa Claus. Distributed by Warner Bros.
Rudolph made his first screen appearance in 1948, in a cartoon short produced by Max Fleischer for the Jam Handy Corporation that was more faithful to May's original story than Marks' song, which had not yet been written. It was reissued in 1951 with the song added.
Snow Miser is one of the two main antagonists (alongside his brother Heat Miser) of the 1974 animated television short film The Year Without Santa Claus and it 2006 live-action remake, as well as one of the main protagonists of the 2008 animated spin-off special A Miser Brothers Christmas.
When Mrs. Claus is talking about how all the children from around the world were making gifts for Santa, she says "From East (they show a child dressed like a cowboy) and from West" (they show a little child from the orient). They should be switched - West-cowboy, East-Oriental.
What do we know about how, why and when children stop believing in Santa? The average age that children stop believing in Santa is eight. There's a huge amount of variation though — some kids will report it around four or five, some are closer to 12 or 13. So the average is eight, but each child's journey is different.
Centuries prior to the events of The Year Without a Santa Claus, and emphasized in the sequel, A Miser Brothers' Christmas, Snow Miser had been feuding with his brother Heat Miser since they were children. Snow Miser owns the Northern Territories, whilst Heat Miser owns the Southern Territories.
Santa Claus – How George Albert Smith Made The First Christmas Movie In 1898. George Albert Smith produced the first Christmas Movie in 1898 by delighting audiences with the magic of SANTA CLAUS.
According to the Guinness Book of World Records, "White Christmas" by Bing Crosby is not only the best-selling Christmas/holiday single in the United States, but also the best-selling single of all time since the advent of recorded music, with estimated sales in excess of 50 million copies worldwide.
“Christmas Under Wraps,” starring Candace Cameron Bure and David O'Donnell, debuted in 2014 and still holds the record for Hallmark's highest-ever broadcast premiere ratings.
