'The Rocky Horror Picture Show' cast: See where Tim Curry, Susan Sarandon, and more stars are now (2025)

The Rocky Horror Picture Show remains a cult classic for a reason. It's over-the-top, kitschy production gives fans the perfect Halloween plans, while its indelible soundtrack offers timeless sing-alongs all year long. The 1975 movie musical ignited the careers of stars like Susan Sarandon and served as a career closer for Rocky himself, Peter Hinwood.

Many cast members came from theatrical backgrounds, with actors like Barry Bostwick and Tim Curry returning to the stage while also expanding their onscreen careers. Others, like Meat Loaf and Nell Campbell, found success in their music endeavors. But no matter where their paths led, The Rocky Horror Picture Show has stuck with them — whether they like it or not. (And some, quite vocally, do not.)

We would like, if we may, to take you on a strange journey. Ahead, here is what the actors have been up to since leaving Dr. Frank-N-Furter's castle.

Tim Curry (Dr. Frank-N-Furter)

Back in the 1970s, Tim Curry was primarily a stage actor, until one of the musicals he starred in, The Rocky Horror Show, was turned into a film. Curry led the absurdity as Dr. Frank-N-Furter, a self-described "sweet transvestite from Transsexual, Transylvania."

"I started playing [Frank-N-Furter] as a German, then I saw the costume. It was quite diva," Curry told EW in 2015, recalling how he first brought his iconic character to life on stage. "I heard a woman on the bus one day saying, in this posh voice, "Are you looking at a new house when retiring or your place in the country?" and I thought, 'That's it! Almost like the Queen.' Well, it was a smash from the moment it opened."

Curry's performance in The Rocky Horror Picture Show led the star to years of notable film roles in monosyllabic classics like Legend (1985), Clue (1985), and It (1990). He also continued acting on the stage, earning himself three Tony nominations for Best Actor (two for musicals, one for a play) and also a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2015 Tony Awards. Curry returned to Rocky Horror as the Criminologist in a 2016 TV film remake and again as Dr. Frank-N-Furter in a 2020 reading in support of Joe Biden's presidential campaign.

Susan Sarandon (Janet Weiss)

Susan Sarandon already had a number of film and television credits under her belt when she signed on to play Janet in The Rocky Horror Picture Show, but it soon became a star-making performance for the actress. In addition, Sarandon showed off her pipes when the quiet, suppressed Janet let her wild side out in "Touch-a, Touch-a, Touch-a, Touch Me."

"I don't think anybody knew what to make of [the film], and that was the end of it. I never even knew it had opened...then it slowly started gaining traction as a midnight movie," the actress told EW in 2015. "Lots of times journalists ask me in such a way as though I would be defensive about it, but I'm very proud of being part of it."

Sarandon has never stopped acting, and reached celebrity status after starring in 1991's . She went on to win an Oscar for Best Actress in 1995 for Dead Man Walking, and is still starring in films, including Blackbird (2019), Jolt (2021), Ride the Eagle (2021), Blue Beetle (2023), and The Fabulous Four (2024). She also led the short-lived Fox drama Monarch in 2022.

Previously married to Chris Sarandon from 1967 to 1979, the six-time Emmy nominee is a mother of three: a daughter with filmmaker Franco Amurri and two sons with actor Tim Robbins.

Barry Bostwick (Brad Majors)

Before taking on the role of Brad Majors in The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Barry Bostwick had already introduced the world to one of the most iconic musical characters of the 20th century when he originated the role of Danny Zuko in the stage production of Grease, which earned him a Tony nomination. He won a Tony for Best Actor in a Musical in 1977 for The Robber Bridegroom and, the following year, continued to show off his singing and acting skills as the nerdy Brad, who convinced the world that "Damn it" and "Janet" rhyme.

"There's something incredibly simple aboutRocky Horror Picture Showin terms of its color and props and scenes," Bostwick told EW in 2015. "And I think that's what people respond to: that they can be any character in it if they have the balls to stand up and put those costumes on."

Bostwick had major roles on sitcoms like Spin City and What I Like About You and made-for-television movies like Teen Beach Movie (2013) and the Signed, Sealed, Delivered series. He is also recognized as Jerry Grant — Fitz's (Tony Goldwyn) controlling and belligerent father — on Scandal. In 2021, he hosted several special screenings of Rocky Horror around the country and had a supporting role in Netflix's first LGBTQ+ holiday rom-com, Single All the Way.

After ending his four-year marriage to actress Stacey Nelkin in 1991, Bostwick married actress Sherri Jensen two years later. Together, they have two children.

Peter Hinwood (Rocky Horror)

Peter Hinwood was a professional model taking tiny acting roles when he was offered the part of the genetically engineered, perfect man, Rocky Horror. Although the character lent his name to the movie's title, Hinwood's role mostly just involved getting oiled up and running around in golden shorts. Not that any of us are complaining.

Hinwood stopped acting after The Rocky Horror Picture Show, and now works as an antiques dealer in London. In 2000, he explained to PEOPLE why he decided not to ride the Rocky road to superstardom, saying: "One, I can't act. Two, I cringe with embarrassment every time I see myself on film. Three, I relish a quiet, peaceful life."

Richard O'Brien (Riff Raff)

Richard O'Brien was more than just the creepy handyperson Riff Raff in The Rocky Horror Picture Show — he actually wrote the original musical and co-wrote the screenplay. It should come as no surprise that the writer's character would lead off the film's most popular song, "The Time Warp."

O'Brien continued writing musicals, and appeared in bit roles in various films and productions. In the early 1990s, O'Brien garnered fame as the host of the U.K. game show The Crystal Maze. He voiced the father on the children's show Phineas and Ferb and in its 2020 movie. In 2015, he performed as the Narrator in a West End limited run of Rocky Horror.

The actor shares three children from previous marriages; a son, Linus, with actress Kimi Wong, and a son and daughter with designer Jane Moss. In April 2013, O'Brien tied the knot for the third time, marrying Sabrina Graf.

Patricia Quinn (Magenta)

In the early 1970s, Patricia Quinn was an Irish actress who had a few credits in some raunchy British comedies. The Rocky Horror Picture Show seemed right up her alley, but she never could have expected that her role as the maid Magenta would be the one she would be remembered as for the rest of her life.

Quinn continued doing small roles in television and movies, but has never forgotten about Magenta. Although she hasn't acted since 2013, Quinn still makes a point to show up at screenings of The Rocky Horror Picture Show to answer questions, sign autographs, and even perform some of her songs from the film.

"Every generation introduces their children to it," she told EW in 2015. "I've been flying around doing conventions and introducing the movie for years, and I'm still amazed at these huge crowds to whom the movie still means so much."

She also has quite a famous family: Her nephews started the band Snow Patrol and her stepsons, Toby Stephens and Chris Larkin (whose biological mother is Maggie Smith), are both actors as well.

Nell Campbell (Columbia)

Nell Campbell was born in Sydney, but moved to London in her 20s. She tried out for acting roles under the name "Little Nell," and her early talent for tap dancing is what got her the role of the energetic Columbia.

After The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Campbell focused on music. She released a number of songs in the late-1970s, the best known of which was her high-pitched disco song "Do the Swim." She reprised her role alongside Tim Curry and Barry Bostwick in a 2020 Rocky Horror live stream performance, and appeared in 2022's Seriously Red, which follows a realtor becoming a Dolly Parton impersonator.

Campbell shares a daughter named Matilda with ex-boyfriend and business partner, Eamon Roche.

Meat Loaf (Eddie)

Still just a kid who loved making music, Michael Aday joined the cast of the musical The Rocky Horror Show thanks to his background in musical theater. When the musical was being adapted into a film, Aday took the part of the rock and roll-loving, motorcycle-crashing Eddie.

While Aday was filming The Rocky Horror Picture Show, he was also working on what would become his most famous piece of work, Bat Out of Hell. That album, which has sold 43 million copies, launched Meat Loaf to music superstardom. He had some notable acting roles, including an appearance in Spice World (1997) and playing Robert Paulson in Fight Club (1999).

Meat Loaf died at age 74 in 2022. He is survived by his two daughters and wife, Deborah Gillespie.

Charles Gray (The Criminologist)

'The Rocky Horror Picture Show' cast: See where Tim Curry, Susan Sarandon, and more stars are now (9)

Before portraying the narrator in The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Charles Gray was already an established British stage actor and famous for playing James Bond villains in both You Only Live Twice (1967) and Diamonds Are Forever (1971). He lent his didactic voice to teach us all exactly how to do the Time Warp.

Gray continued his acting career in British films, such as An Englishman Abroad (1983) and roles in several Sherlock Holmes and Shakespeare adaptations into the 1980s.

In 2000, Gray died at age 71 due to cancer.

Jonathan Adams (Dr. Everett V. Scott)

'The Rocky Horror Picture Show' cast: See where Tim Curry, Susan Sarandon, and more stars are now (10)

Jonathan Adams originally trained to be a painter, but decided to pursue acting later in life. He had small appearances on British television and in movies, but finally landed a larger role as Dr. Everett Scott, a scientist whom Frank-N-Furter sees as his rival.

Adams continued to have a steady stream of small roles, but sadly died of a stroke in 2005 at the age of 74.
