Is Kaplan enough for content review? ›

Option #2: I want a more thorough review

The Kaplan books are probably the best choice for most people. Especially if you feel like you might be weak in some areas, the Kaplan books will be very thorough. That said, the one drawback is that there are some sections where they go into more detail than you'll need.

The general trend for Kaplan practice exams is that they are based heavily on content and may present as much more difficult than the real MCAT.

Kaplan is one of the giants in test prep, and their courses and tutoring for SAT prep are well-known.

Kaplan strongly recommends review for essential nursing content organized by client needs for all areas on the exam that have a score of <65% correct. At Kaplan, 65% correct corresponds to passing on the NCLEX exam.

In a testament to their hard work and the dedication of their tutors, 91% of Kaplan-recruited students passed their course. Out of that 91%, a brilliant 95% of students received an unconditional offer from their first-choice university.

Ultimately, while Kaplan's practice tests may not perfectly mirror the real exam, they can still be a useful tool in a comprehensive MCAT preparation strategy.

The difference between Kaplan and UWorld in terms of pure practice material is quite small, with Kaplan maybe holding a little lead. We found UWorld's problem explanations were better, while Kaplan's practice questions were more like the real NCLEX questions.

The most realistic CATs available are the 6 from GMAC - but thankfully, the CATs from Kaplan, MGMAT and Veritas are all 'close enough' to the real thing that they will provide you with a relatively realistic score assessment (assuming that you correctly take the CAT in a realistic fashion).

Does Kaplan prepare you for NCLEX? ›

However, the Kaplan CAT is generally considered to be more difficult than the NCLEX. This is because the Kaplan CAT covers a wider range of topics and has more challenging questions than the NCLEX. Therefore, if you are looking to prepare for the NCLEX, you may want to consider taking the Kaplan CAT first.

The minimum number of questions is 75 and the maximum is 145. If you answer most of the questions correctly, then you could pass the test after answering only the minimum of 75. Unfortunately, it is also possible to fail the exam after answering only 75 questions.

The CAT algorithm determines whether you pass or fail based on one of the following three rules: the 95% Confidence Interval Rule, Maximum-Length Exam Rule, or the Run-out-of-time (ROOT) Rule. These are sometimes also referred to as the exam “stopping rules” that indicate when the exam will end.

If you ask is it helpful, I'd answer Yes. But if you ask is Kaplan lecture notes alone sufficient to crack the exam, I'd definitely say No. That's an incomplete approach to crack USMLE. Scoring excellently high is all about solving as many number of questions as possible.

The primary difference between the Kaplan and Princeton Review MCAT offerings revolves around live instruction. Kaplan provides a flex class schedule (allowing for drop in and drop out), while Princeton Review's classes are fixed, but led by a rotating team of subject matter experts.

I used Kaplan's book and videos to understand the concepts of pharmacology and the mechanisms of medications. They were beautifully explained there. The book is divided by system, so you can pair it with First Aid. The book is 500 pages but it is well written and goes fast.

Kaplan notes are good but not the only source to study for USMLE.
